Ullswater "Steamers" |
|

|
Sail on England’s most beautiful lake onboard the Victorian ‘steamers’ Lady of the Lake and Raven. You can make a day of it by opting to ‘Cruise & Walk’ or ‘Cruise & Lunch’. See ‘Glenridding to Howtown Walk’ & ‘Hallin Fell Walk’ in the ‘Estate Walks’ section. |

The UK’s only remaining steam-powered pottery and home to one of the first Ceramic Cafes in the North of England. Create your own work of art, get your kid’s face painted, visit the museum… basically, there’s lots to do! |

Eden Ostrich World (Langwathby, 6 miles east of Penrith) |

|
Visit this award winning visitor centre and you’ll see ostrich chicks hatching, emu, wallabies, rhea and, if you’re really lucky, cows and sheep too! You can also see Tilly and her amazing Zebra-foal, a species unique to Eden Ostrich World. |

‘The Village in the Hill’, recently voted Cumbria’s Best Large Visitor Attraction! It’s centrepiece is a giant cinema screen the size of six double- decker buses showing epic adventure movies every day .Other attractions include a restaurant, bar, soft-play area, local craft shops, gallery, a Mountaineering Exhibition, live music, classic cinema and more! |

Around Ullswater… You can hire rowing boats, sailing boats, motor boats, canoes mountain bikes and even tennis courts locally too! There are swimming pools at Penrith and Troutbeck (nr Ambleside), and a Leisure Pool at Keswick if you’d prefer. So you want to entertain the kids for the day, or perhaps you’d like to get your own adrenaline pumping… then visit one of the nearby outdoor activity centres for an unforgettable day out. Brochures for each are available from the Estate office |

Patterdale Hall (in the Estate grounds) |

Just metres away from your door, you can organise a variety of activities here including kayaking, sailing, canoeing, fell walking, rock-climbing, abseiling, caving, orienteering, gorge exploring, archery, and ropes courses! You will have to book in advance to be sure, and a minimum group size of six is preferable, although they say it’s ‘always worth asking’ if you have fewer folk than that.

Ullswater Outward Bound (6 miles up the lake road, in Watermillock) |

|
Tackle the famous Outward Bound ropes courses or the heart-stopping zip-wire, plus many other exciting challenges. Again you should book in advance, but the OB can cater for individuals and groups alike. You can book in for a morning, afternoon or full day session in which you’ll enjoy canoeing, climbing, orienteering games and much more! |

Howtown Outdoor Activity Centre (‘Steamer’ cruise to Howtown, or drive 12 miles) |

Sailing, kayaking, rock-climbing, gully-scrambling, archery, orienteering, ropes courses and rafting are all on offer here. Book in advance for a great day out – they’ll even collect children from the Steamer pier at Howtown and put them back on the boat to Glenridding at the end of the day, but don’t forget that all children travelling on the ferries must be accompanied by somebody of 14 years or older. |

Rookin House Equestrian & Activity Centre (5 miles towards Keswick, near Dockray) |

A wide range of activities suitable for adults and children include horse riding lessons, pony trekking, quad biking, the argo cat off-road experience (?), go-karting, archery, clay pigeon shooting and even riding in an amphibious army truck! Again, booking is essential. |

Greystoke Castle Estate (10 miles, across the A66 from here) |

An off road driving Centre with over 3000 acres for playing around on quad bikes - they even have mini-quads for children of 12 years and over. |

Pony Trekking Rookin House Farm (near Dockray, 5 miles away), Park Foot (near Pooley Bridge, 9 miles away) Sockbridge Trekking Centre (past Pooley Bridge, 10 miles away) All offer horsey days out for beginners and experienced riders alike. |
